Do I need a GPS?

September 30th, 2009

Many people have asked the question, “Do I need a GPS?”  With all of the devices that you carry around these days, you may not want to add another one.  Let’s look at the reasons that you may want to considering getting a GPS for Christmas this year and why it may reduce, rather than add to, the amount of items that you carry in your purse or pocket.

Have you ever had arrangements that were completely dependent on the weather?  For example, you may have had plans to attend the outdoor theater or a ballgame for the evening.  You may have found yourself stuck in traffic driving home in your car wondering whether it will rain or not.  Unfortunately, you probably had no answers until you arrived home, at which point, it may have been too late to decide.

A GPS would help you out of this situation in two ways.  One, many GPS’s will deliver you instant weather reports so that you will know what to expect weather-wise.  And two, with a GPS, you would not be stuck in traffic because your GPS may provide traffic reports and how you can avoid them.

Have you ever lost your car in a parking lot or been lost in your car and did not know where you are?  Recently, a friend of mine was driving to a basketball game downtown  and got stuck in a bad area.  She was so scared and did not know how to get out of this unsafe area.  A GPS would not only tell her immediately how to get out of that part of town but it would also tell her where her car was parked if she could not remember.

Have you ever wanted to show your friends pictures of kids or a party you attended only to find out that your camera was not on you at the time?  A new GPS would solve these problems as well.  Today’s GPS not only provide directions, they do many other things.  Many of the latest Portable GPS Navigators provide large amounts of storage, and very nice wide screens, that allow you to take your pictures with you wherever you may be.

Want to hear the latest music that you have downloaded but left your new iPod Touch 32GB in the house?  No problem.  Today’s latest GPS devices also come with built-in MP3 players so that you can hear your favorite music all the time.

Do you know that it is illegal in many states to talk on your cell phone in the car without being hands-free?  With a new GPS from Garmin Nuvi, this is also not a problem.  New GPS devices have built in Bluetooth enabling you to connect your cell phone to your GPS and go hands free.

A portable GPS system not only tells you exactly where you are and how to get where you are going but answers many other questions.  From those questions posed above to more simple ones like “Where is the closet Walgreen’s?”, a GPS makes everyday life easier.  And, as you can see, it may just be the only device that you need to carry with you!
